Grand Cayman Cruise Port Guide 2026: Things to Do Near the George Town Terminal

Grand Cayman is a tender port. Cruise ships anchor off George Town and small tender boats bring you ashore in a few minutes. From the cruise terminals you can walk to Eden Rock, the National Museum and the George Town waterfront, or take a short shuttle or taxi to Seven Mile Beach, the Turtle Centre or a Stingray City tour.

Does Grand Cayman have a cruise ship pier?

No. Ships anchor in George Town harbour and passengers are taken ashore by tender. The Port Authority lists three landing points on the George Town waterfront: the Royal Watler Pier, the North Terminal and the South Terminal (Port Authority of the Cayman Islands). Your ship will tell you which terminal it is using that day.

In an April 2025 referendum, Caymanian voters said no to building cruise berthing facilities, so tendering is here to stay. Even without a pier, the Port Authority forecasts about 1,376,467 cruise passengers in 2026 and 1,693,484 in 2027, based on cruise line bookings (Cayman Compass).

Tip: Tender lines can be long when several ships are in port, so head back to the terminal early. Always follow your ship’s instructions for the last tender.

What can you walk to from the George Town cruise port?

Eden Rock: This snorkel spot is only about a 5-minute walk south of the cruise port. You can expect to see lots of tarpon. Read our full guide to snorkeling at Eden Rock.

Cayman Islands National Museum: The museum sits on the historic George Town waterfront and has natural history and cultural history galleries, plus the historic Old Gaol (jail). It is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm, and is generally closed on Sundays. Visitor admission is US$15 for adults, US$10 for seniors and children aged 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and under. Allow 45 minutes to an hour. The special exhibition “Beyond the Reef: Exploring our Depths, Sharing our Story” runs through January 2027 (Cayman Islands National Museum).

The Wreck of the Gamma: If you have a bit more time, the Wreck of the Gamma is another shallow snorkel spot just north of George Town.

How much does it cost to get from the cruise port to Seven Mile Beach?

The Port Authority publishes shuttle fares from the George Town port. These are in US dollars, one way, and based on a minimum of four passengers. They are subject to change (Port Authority of the Cayman Islands).

Public Beach (Seven Mile Beach): US$6 per person.

Cemetery Beach, the Yacht Club and the Grand Caymanian Resort: US$7 per person.

Turtle Farm, Morgan’s Harbour and Hell: US$8 per person.

Island tour to the Turtle Farm, Hell and more (1.5 to 2 hours): US$30 per person.

See our guides to Seven Mile Beach, the Turtle Farm and Hell to decide where to go. For other trips, you can use a taxi. Taxi fares in Grand Cayman are set by the government rather than metered.

Can you go to Stingray City from a cruise ship?

Yes. Stingray City is the most popular excursion in Grand Cayman, and you can book it through your cruise line or directly with a local operator. Compare options in our guide to Stingray City tours.

If you book our 4-stop Stingray eco tour, only book it if your ship arrives in Grand Cayman before 9am. You will need to take a 15-minute taxi from the cruise port to the Cayman Islands Yacht Club (Dock B), and we can drive you back to the cruise port after the tour. If your ship arrives later, our private boat charter can depart at 11:45am.

What time zone is Grand Cayman in?

The Cayman Islands are on UTC-5 (Eastern Standard Time) all year and do not change their clocks for daylight saving time (timeanddate.com). This means that from March to early November, Grand Cayman is one hour behind Miami and New York. Your ship may keep its own “ship time”, so always use ship time for your all-aboard deadline.

Do you need Cayman dollars on a cruise stop?

No. US dollars are widely accepted, although you will often get change in Cayman dollars. Read our guide to the best currency to use in the Cayman Islands for more information.

Final thoughts

A cruise day in Grand Cayman is easy to plan. If you want to stay close to the ship, snorkel at Eden Rock and visit the National Museum. If you want to see the highlights, book a Stingray City tour early in the day, then relax on Seven Mile Beach before you head back to the tender.
